Email marketing software is a tool for bulk email marketing or email advertising that facilitates an automatic email response. Just how valuable the tool is depends on its functionality. It is theoretically possible to do it manually but the cost in human resources would be untenable and with the wealth of technology available it’s rather pointless.

Autoresponders are the common form of Email marketing software. Many are available on a monthly fee paying service others have an upfront purchase price with no ongoing fees. The same range of functionality is available in both.

The major drawback of bulk e mail services are the ongoing fees. Normally these fees are volume dependent and while ads offer incredibly low “starting at” monthly rates the number of emails delivered for that rate are just as low. Basically with service based email software you must be prepared for significant service cost increases as your mailing list expands. Another point worth considering is that each time you join or swap services your existing client list will be required to single or double opt-in (depending on the service) providing a further barrier to loyal customer retention.
